- Make sure the plant you selected is compatible with where you want to plant it. If it is a shade plant then plant in the shade, if a sun plant, then plant in the sun. If the plant needs a well drained site, do not plant in an area that holds water.
- Dig the hole 2-3 times the diameter of the root ball but no deeper.
- Mix 1/3 Zoo Brew or compost to 2/3 soil that was dug from the hole.
- Place the plant in the hole so the top of the root ball is level to slightly higher than the grade. If you dug the hole too deep, firmly pack soil under root ball to raise it to proper level. If the plant was root-bound, pull or scratch some of the roots to encourage them to grow out.
- Back fill around the root ball pressing the soil mixture firmly around it as you go. DO NOT replace the soil with anything else such as bagged topsoil. Fill with soil until it is level with the top of the root ball. Do not cover the top of root ball.
- Soak the soil to force out any air pockets that can dry and damage the roots.
- Mulch with about 2" of mulch to help maintain moisture.
- Water frequently for the first few weeks to prevent wilting.
Keep the soil around the plant moist for the first growing season.
