Winter Indoor Plant Care

Winter Indoor Plant Care

Plant Parenting has become such an intricate part of life, and we have loved every minute of it. Seeing plants go home with happy people each spring and summer just fills us with joy! But one thing people don't talk too much about is how difficult it is on your plants (and you!) in January and February. Even to the experienced plant expert, the dry air, shorter days, and lack of sunlight make plant care a bit tricky.

Don't lose heart! You can do this!

TOP 5 HACKS FOR HEALTHY INDOOR PLANTS DURING THE WINTER

#1: Up first: rinse and clean off leaves.
-Use your sink or bathtub
-Use a gentle stream and lukewarm water
-Spray tops and bottoms of leaves, flush the soil and clean up the pot.
-Leave in sink or bathroom until leaves are dry (it will be so happy!)
-Spray with your favorite organic Neem oil or protectant- we love @wethewildusa since it is completely safe around kids and pets.
-Repeat as often as needed!
-DO NOT use this process for succulents or cacti. Just tropicals!

#2: Rotate Your Plants!
-Rotate for an even amount of sun so your plants don't grow uneven or lopsided.
-This can be done weekly or monthly, depending on the plants needs.

#3: Watch Out for Vents!
-The heat sucks moisture out of the air and can critically dry out and burn leaves.
-Move plant away from vents.
-If the lighting is just right, then purchase an inexpensive vent cover to divert airflow.

#4: Humidity Hacks!
-Humidity is key for winter plant health.
-Create a microclimate with rocks and a saucer. Plants will absorb the extra water up from the saucer while rocks keep it elevated out of the water. *Don't use terra cotta saucers for this
-A well lit bathroom is a great place for extra humidity, thanks to steamy showers!
-Close the door to trap in some of the extra moisture and they will thank you!

#5: Succulent Care!
-They love HIGH light and LOW water.
-It's okay if they don't look great right now, this is not their prime season to shine!
-While we say low water, you still need to water them!
